What is Alfredo sauce?
Alfredo is not Italian but American. I’ll give you a quick history lesson, so Alfredo, a Roman named Alfredo, created this sauce. Alfredo’s sauce was clearly an emulsion of butter, Parmesan, and pasta, then garlic and cream are added to the version we love and know today for a more saucy consistency, so this modernized sauce can be called an Italian-American lovechild.
How to make the perfect Alfredo sauce
- When you add the pasta, it will appear thin. Do not worry, so just keep tossing. The starches in the pasta will mix with the sauce and give it the perfect consistency. The sauce may become sticky if you thicken it with flour or cornstarch.
- Add a pinch or two of nutmeg, then red pepper flakes or Italian seasoning to give this sauce flair. You can be artistic when it comes to seasoning.
- This recipe can be adjusted to your desired level of richness by adjusting the cream-to-milk ratio.
