Church’s Chicken Sandwich Recipe
Church’s Chicken Sandwich Recipe
The Church’s Chicken Sandwich Recipe offers a delicious, crispy chicken fillet encased in a soft bun with all of the classic toppings, so this sandwich is known for its spicy or original chicken, so you can easily recreate it at home using a few ingredients.
Ingredients:
For the Chicken
Four skinless and boneless chicken breasts or thighs
1 cup regular milk (or buttermilk) with 1 tablespoon vinegar
Add 1 tablespoon of hot sauce to your dish for a spicy kick.
1 cup all-purpose flour
paprika 1 Tbsp
1 tsp garlic powder
onion powder 1 tsp
Cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon (for spicy version).
1 teaspoon of salt
Black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon
Vegetable oil to fry
Sandwiches:
Four soft sandwich buns (preferably potato or brioche buns).
Mayonnaise (or spicy mayo, if desired)
Pickles (optional, but recommended)
Lettuce, optional (for crunch and freshness).
Sliced tomatoes (optional).
Instructions:
1. Marinate the chicken:
Combine the buttermilk with hot sauce if you are using it. Mixture the buttermilk and hot sauce (if using) in a bowl, then add the chicken breasts or thighs to the mixture, making sure that they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight, then marinating chicken tenderizes the meat and adds flavor.
2. Prepare the breading:
In a separate mixing bowl, combine the flour with paprika (for flavor), garlic powder, onion, cayenne, salt, and pepper, then mix the ingredients well, ensuring that the spices are evenly dispersed throughout the flour, so this flour mixture is seasoned to give your chicken a crunchy, flavorful crust.
3. Bread the Chicken
After marinating, remove the chicken from the buttermilk mix and allow the excess liquid to drain off, then each chicken piece should be dredged in the flour mixture and pressed down lightly to ensure a uniform coating. Dip the chicken in buttermilk again and then coat it with flour for an extra crisp crust, so the double coating creates a thicker and crunchier crust.
4. Fried Chicken:
On medium heat, heat vegetable oil in a large pan or deep fryer, so oil should be heated to 350degF (or 175degC). Place the chicken pieces carefully into the hot oil, then be careful not to crowd the pan. Fry the chicken for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown, then remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels.
5. Toast the Buns
While the chicken is cooking, toast the buns for the sandwiches in a separate skillet or grill until golden brown, the toasting the bread adds flavor and prevents it from becoming soggy after adding the mayonnaise.
6. Sandwiches:
Spread mayonnaise or spicy mayonnaise generously on the top and bottom buns, then add a fried fillet of chicken to the bottom bun, then add pickles, lettuce and tomato slices (if desired) to the top of the chicken. Then, place the top bun to complete the sandwich.
7. Serve:
Serve your homemade Church’s Chicken-style sandwich with crisp fries, potato chips or coleslaw.
