Ingredients:

Chicken Drumsticks

  • 10-12 chicken drumsticks (skin-on)
  • Olive oil 2 tablespoons
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 Tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • Cumin ground to 1/2 teaspoon
  • Half a teaspoon of chili powder
  • To taste: salt and pepper

For the Ranch Dip

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk or regular milk (if preferred).
  • Fresh Lemon Juice 1 Tablespoon
  • Fresh parsley chopped to 1 tablespoon
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • To taste: salt and pepper

Instructions:

1. Preparation of Chicken Drumsticks

  • Preheat your oven to 200degC (400degF).
  • With paper towels, pat the drumsticks of chicken dry. The skin will crisp up more in the oven.
  • Combine the garlic powder, paprika powder, onion powder, cumin powder, chili powder, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Rub the seasoning mix all over the drumsticks of chicken, making sure they are coated evenly.
  • Place the drumsticks seasoned on a baking tray lined with parchment or a rack made of wire (for an extra crispy result). Be sure to space the drumsticks evenly so that air can circulate, and they cook evenly.

2. Bake the drumsticks

  • The drumsticks should be baked in a preheated oven for between 35 and 45 minutes or until they reach 165degF and the skin turns golden brown. Flip the drumsticks halfway through the cooking process to ensure an even cook.
  • After cooking, remove the drumsticks and allow them to rest for five minutes before serving.

3. Make Ranch Dip

  • Prepare the ranch dip while the chicken is baking. In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, sour cream, mayonnaise and garlic powder. Add the chopped parsley. If necessary, adjust the seasoning.
  • If you want a thicker dip, add more sour cream or reduce the buttermilk. If you want a thinner dip then add more buttermilk to reach the desired consistency.

4. Serve:

  • Serve the drumsticks with homemade ranch dip to dip. If desired, garnish with extra parsley.

Tip and variations:

  • Grill Option: If grilling is your preferred method, heat the grill to medium and cook the drumsticks, seasoning them for 25-30 min, rotating the drumsticks occasionally until they’re fully cooked.
  • Prepare Ahead: Season the drumsticks of chicken a few hours in advance and store them to add flavor. You can bake them as soon as you are ready to serve.
  • Add different herbs and spices, like cayenne pepper, to your chicken seasoning. Smoked paprika is also a good choice for a smokey flavor.
  • Healthy Option: To make the drumsticks lower in fat, remove the skin before baking and seasoning. You can make a lighter Ranch Dip by substituting Greek yogurt for sour cream and reducing mayo.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce to ranch dip, or add finely chopped jalapenos for a spicy touch.
